141.

Which of the following connections can be made on CPVC?

  • Solvent cemented

  • Fusion welded

  • Compression

  • Threaded

Correct answer: Solvent cemented

CPVC is designed to apply primer and the associated cement to secure the fittings. Although CPVC will fit certain compression fittings, they are not rated to do so. It also cannot be threaded or fused.

142.

When using a wet vented system, the wet vent should be sized based on the                    units discharged into the vent.

  • fixture

  • waste

  • water

  • vent

Correct answer: fixture

The wet vent is sized upon what fixture will be discharged into that vent. This is measured by fixture units. Each fixture is allotted an amount based on the average of that specific fixture. This allows for adequate sizing to allow the system to act as a vent and a waste pipe.

143.

Which of the following scenarios could supply a 5 psi gas system inside the building?

  • Warehouse with welded joints

  • Single dwelling unit with threaded steel

  • Restaurant

  • Laundromat

Correct answer: Warehouse with welded joints

The single house dwelling unit, restaurant, and laundromat do not meet the requirements that the code stipulates to allow them to run 5 psi inside the structure. The warehouse and the welded joints are both exceptions that allow there to be a 5 psi line inside the structure.

144.

When either a direct or indirect water heater is located at an elevation above the fixture outlets, what is required to be installed?

  • A vacuum relief valve

  • A ball valve

  • A water heater drain pan

  • An expansion tank

Correct answer: A vacuum relief valve

When the water heater is located above the outlet of a fixture, vacuum relief is needed so that the water cannot be siphoned out of the water heater. If this device wasn't there, a vacuum could be created that could siphon water out of the water heater that could cause failures, such as over heating and blown elements. While the other devices may need to be installed, they do not correlate to the water heater being above the outlet of the highest fixture.

145.

When supporting steel gas pipe that is 2 inches or larger, how often must the pipe be secured?

  • Every floor level

  • 6 feet

  • 8 feet

  • 3 feet

Correct answer: Every floor level

When the piping is larger than 1.25 inches, it must be supported every floor level. It can be less but can not be more than each floor. The others would not be the requirement from the UPC 2021.

146.

The             vent connection to the vent stack must be placed at minimum 42 inches above the floor level.

  • yoke

  • drainage

  • studor

  • wet

Correct answer: yoke

When utilizing a yoke vent, this is the guide that must be followed. The other items are not directly related to the details above although they are a part of certain situations in the vent system.

147.

When an outlet is installed, it must be installed with a shut-off valve and a(n):

  • cap or plug

  • gas flex

  • escutcheon

  • tag or label

Correct answer: cap or plug

Even if the outlet has a gas valve, it must also have a cap or plug when it is not in use or being tested.

148.

The arrangement of piping and regulators after the point of delivery is called:

  • gas piping system

  • water piping system

  • waste removal system

  • waste disposal system

Correct answer: gas piping system

Although this terminology can be similar for all systems, this pertains to the gas piping system. The other systems will not have gas regulators that could be a part of those systems.

149.

When external damages are likely to occur, underground gas piping must be buried at a depth of                     inches.

  • 18

  • 12

  • 16

  • 24

Correct answer: 18

Where there are external forces that could cause damage to the underground pipe, 18 inches must be the depth of the gas line. This would include very rocky soil, heavy load bearing slabs, etc.

150.

wastes should be provided for drains, overflows, or relief vents from the potable water system.

  • Indirect

  • Continuous

  • Separate

  • Combination

Correct answer: Indirect

Indirect waste is required to handle drains, overflows, or relief vents on potable water systems in the event that they fail. This waste typically doesn't see use unless one of these items fails. The other types of waset are not designed for this scenario.

151.

What is the max diameter of a solid that a pump should be capable of passing?

  • 1.5 inches

  • 2 inches

  • 1.75 inches

  • 1 inch

Correct answer: 1.5 inches

The pump must be able to pass solids up to 1.5 inches in diameter. This is standard for most pumps that are on the market.

152.

What is the minimum required distance between a urinal and a water closet?

  • 30 inches

  • 15 inches

  • 22 inches

  • 36 inches

Correct answer: 30 inches

The minimum distance between two fixtures must be 30 inches from center to center. If there is a wall or a partition, then the distance can be 15 inches from that wall or partition to the center of the fixture.

153.

When installing a plastic water piping underground, what must it accompany it?

  • Tracer wire

  • Sand

  • Plastic wrap

  • Sewer pipe

Correct answer: Tracer wire

The tracer wire is important to help locate the line in the future if there ever is any excavation that is needed. The others are all things that aren’t required, but you may see them installed from time to time along with the tracer wire.

154.

When can a fuel burning water heater be installed in a bedroom or bathroom?

  • When the closet has a gasketed and self-closing door

  • When there's no other space designated

  • When another water heater is needed

  • When needing to be relocated

Correct answer: When the closet has a gasketed and self-closing door

Water heaters are permitted to be installed in bathrooms and bedrooms if the closet they are located in has a gasketed and self-closing door, and that it meets all of the other combustion air requirements. The other scenarios mentioned may be good reasons for the water heater being located in the bathroom or a bedroom, but they do not constitute it being the only reason.

155.

What is the maximum length of a trap arm on a 3 inch piping?

  • 72 inches

  • 120 inches

  • 60 inches

  • 42 inches

Correct answer: 72 inches

This helps determine the special circumstances when talking about horizontal trap arm lengths and distances. For 3 inch piping, the maximum a trap arm can travel horizontally is 72 inches. It can be less but no more than 72 inches.

(Refer to 2021 UPC Table 1002.2)

156.

When you take the furthest length of piping from the point of delivery to the last outlet, along with the load capacity is considered, what method?

  • Longest length method

  • Branch length method

  • The estimated method

  • Outlet method

Correct answer: Longest length method

The longest length method is usually the most practiced method, the branch length method is also a commonly practiced method, but it does not take the furthest developed length into consideration when calculating gas loads. The other two are not proper ways of calculating a gas load.

157.

Piping must be installed in a way that does not interfere with inspections, maintenance, or the                        of equipment.

  • servicing

  • preparation

  • installation

  • design

Correct answer: servicing

Piping cannot interfere with the inspections, the maintenance, or the servicing of equipment. The other three options do not reflect exactly what the code states.

(Refer to 2021 UPC 1212.10)

158.

Whenever a gas regulator is installed, it must have a shut-off valve                     of every regulator.

  • upstream

  • downstream

  • lock

  • label

Correct answer: upstream

The code states that whenever a regulator is installed, it must have a gas shut-off valve. If there are back to back regulators installed in series, a manual valve is not required after the second one.

159.

Imagine there is CSST carrying a pressure of 40 inches of water column. What would the pressure of a test need to be?

  • 30 psi

  • 20 psi

  • 10 psi

  • 5 psi

Correct answer: 30 psi

The section on testing stipulates that if there is CSST (flexible gas piping) then the test would need to be a minimum of 30 psi at 30 minutes. It could be more but not less than 30.

160.

disconnect devices can be used to hook up gas appliances if a permanent valve is installed upstream.

  • Quick

  • Manual

  • Plastic

  • Iron

Correct answer: Quick

Quick disconnects are permitted to be used if the proper shut-off is permanently in place upstream. The materials of the device are not related to the description above.
